State Minister for Local Government Hon. Justine Nameere has defended her decision to endorse Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, saying her decision was based on informed reasons rather than simply following other people.
Nameere made the remarks after visiting the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretariat on September 23, 2026, where she signed an endorsement book supporting Gen. Muhoozi’s anticipated presidential bid.
The minister said she has known Gen. Muhoozi for many years, explaining that their relationship dates back to her university days when they interacted and worked together on various assignments connected to President Yoweri Museveni.

“Today is a special day for me. The first time I got to interact with Gen Muhoozi was when I was at university, and we used to do a number of assignments together for H.E. the president,” Nameere said.
Nameere explained that she began defending Gen. Muhoozi even before he became openly involved in national politics.
She said that at the time, some people were accusing Muhoozi of being quietly prepared to succeed his father, President Museveni.
According to Nameere, she worked with several individuals, including Shafik Ssebunnya, Jordan and Frank Mwesigwa, to defend Muhoozi during that period.
She said those experiences helped strengthen her relationship with Muhoozi and gave her a deeper understanding of his political journey.
The Masaka City Woman MP said her decision to endorse Muhoozi was based on personal, patriotic, national and international reasons.
“I am a very convicted person. I don’t just follow like a fool. I ask why and why not, and I ask fearlessly. By the time I took the decision to come and endorse my brother for a position as serious as the presidency, I had informed reasons,” she said.
Nameere also maintained that supporting Gen. Muhoozi does not conflict with her loyalty to President Museveni.
She described Muhoozi as one of President Museveni’s leading supporters and said she continues to support the President.
Her endorsement came after days of public disagreement involving edited videos that created tension between her and Muhoozi.
Nameere said the videos were misleading and did not represent the full context of her remarks.
The minister’s visit to the PLU Secretariat and her decision to sign the endorsement book have since publicly reaffirmed her support for Gen. Muhoozi and highlighted her continued political relationship with him.
