Legendary Ugandan athlete Dorcus Inzikuru has officially launched the Centre of Uganda Tournament (CoUT), pledging her long-term support to elevate sports development and showcase the talent potential of Amolatar district.

Speaking as the chief guest during the tournament’s launch on Sunday at Olyaka Primary School playground, the former 3,000m steeplechase world champion promised to support various sports in future editions.

She emphasised her commitment to ensuring the tournament grows into a marquee event that effectively puts Amolatar—geographically recognised as the centre of Uganda—on the national sporting map.

Inzikuru highly praised parents for allowing and encouraging their children to participate in the competition.

She noted that sports play a fundamental role in building talent and instilling self-esteem, particularly among young girls.

Moving forward, she announced that the multi-discipline tournament will become an annual fixture at the centre, rotating across different sports fields every year.

The patron of the tournament, Amolatar Deputy RDC Obonyo Magwar, expressed his profound gratitude to Inzikuru for her collaboration and presence.

He noted that partnering with an athlete of her stature would undoubtedly inspire and help project young local talent far beyond the borders of the district.

The Under-14 sports tournament, which featured both boys’ and girls’ categories, concluded with high-stakes penalty shootouts after intense field actions.

Abako Modern Primary School clashed with Awikori Primary School in a tightly contested match that ended in a goalless tie.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Abako Modern held their nerve to edge out Awikori 3–2, successfully claiming the championship trophy.

The boys’ final followed a similar dramatic script, with Aguludia Primary School overcoming Olyaka Primary School 3–1 on penalties after a stalemate in normal time.

The colourful event drew several high-profile sports administrators, including Amolatar District Sports Officer, Daniel Okao, alongside regional sports officials, all of whom reiterated their commitment to grassroots sports development.
