Entebbe International Airport recorded a total of 169,706 international passengers in August 2026, with passenger traffic rising by more than 13,000 compared to the previous month. The increase came despite travel restrictions that have affected international movement in recent months.The airport handled 88,270 passengers arriving in Uganda and 81,436 passengers departing the country during August.

Together, the figures gave the airport an average of approximately 5,474 international passengers per day.The August performance was higher than the 156,342 international passengers recorded in July 2026. This means passenger traffic increased by 13,364 people between the two months, reflecting stronger movement through the airport during August.However, the latest figures remain significantly lower than those recorded in August 2025. During the same month last year, Entebbe International Airport handled 239,329 international passengers, which was 69,623 more passengers than the number recorded in August 2026.The decline is notable because July and August are normally among the busiest periods for travel.

According to the figures, recent travel restrictions played a role in reducing passenger movement during the period, affecting what would normally be a peak travel season.The airport also recorded substantial activity in cargo operations during August. A total of 2,927 metric tonnes of exports were handled, while imports stood at 1,766 metric tonnes.Combined, the airport handled 4,693 metric tonnes of cargo in August 2026. This was slightly below the 4,799 metric tonnes recorded in July, representing a decrease of 106 metric tonnes from the previous month.

The August figures therefore present a mixed picture for Entebbe International Airport, with passenger numbers improving from July but remaining well below last year’s level. The continued movement of passengers and thousands of tonnes of cargo nevertheless highlights the airport’s important role in Uganda’s international travel, trade and economic activity.
