The Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) has shown interest in the country’s oil and gas sector.

On Monday, OWC senior managers led by Deputy Chief Coordinator of Operations Brigadier General Godfrey Muwanguzi, conducted a two-day visit to the Albertine Graben.

Their visit was to assess developments in Uganda’s oil, gas and petroleum sector.

A statement issued on August 25 said the visit was aimed at giving the OWC leadership first-hand knowledge of key petroleum infrastructure, institutions and activities, while exploring opportunities for increased local participation in the sector.

At Hoima Stadium, the facility’s manager, Eng. Moses Ogen, briefed the delegation on its development and operational milestones.

Ogen informed them that the construction of the stadium was completed in about 13 months, and was certified by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and handed over to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

The delegation also received a briefing from Tony Otoa, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), on the company’s mandate and role in Uganda’s petroleum industry.

Otoa said UNOC is mandated to safeguard and manage Uganda’s commercial interests in the petroleum sector and contribute to the secure and reliable supply of petroleum products.

“The engagement is providing OWC leaders with a broader understanding of the country’s petroleum value chain, supporting infrastructure and safety systems, as well as the opportunities arising from the sector’s development,” the same statement reads.

The delegation also examined the sector’s potential to create employment, attract investment, stimulate local businesses and contribute to national economic transformation.
