Dokolo technical school has emerged as the overall national champion in games and sports, outshining schools from all districts across Uganda in a recent national competition held in Kanungu district.
The school’s resounding victory was celebrated on Tuesday during its Sports Day held at the school grounds in Akongodyek Cell, Southern Ward, Dokolo town council.
Speaking at the event, the school’s principal, Richard Bogere, confirmed that Dokolo Technical School returned from the national competitions with a total of 49 gold medals and five trophies, marking a historic achievement in the institution’s sporting journey.
“This victory is a testament to our commitment, discipline, and consistent training. It is a moment of pride for the entire Dokolo district,” said Bogere.
He added that beyond the victory, the school had another major achievement to celebrate the purchase of a new school bus, which he attributed to the generous contributions of parents.
“We thank our parents for prioritizing the school’s development. This bus will ease student transportation and enhance our participation in academic and co-curricular activities,” Bogere stated.
According to Bonny Okao, the games and sports teacher of the school, the team traveled to Kanungu district on April 28, 2025, and participated in a wide range of sports disciplines until May 6, 2025. These included football, handball, netball, and athletics.
“We took part in all the scheduled sports disciplines and emerged as the best performing technical school in the country. Our students gave their all and exhibited outstanding talent and teamwork,” Okao stated.
Dokolo district sports officer, Godfrey Ojungu, who witnessed the competition, affirmed that it was the third time Dokolo technical school had clinched such a national title.
“I can confidently say that Dokolo technical school is a sporting powerhouse, not just in Dokolo, but across the entire Lango sub-region. They have maintained high discipline and skills in all competitions,” Ojungu noted.
Ojungu appealed to parents, teachers, and leaders to invest more in nurturing sports talents among children.
“These young athletes have the potential to change their lives through sports. We need to support their growth and ambitions,” he said.
The celebration also drew the attention of district leaders and education stakeholders, who praised the school for its outstanding performance and visionary leadership.
Dokolo district education officer, David Eryatu, hailed the school for its transparency, accountability, and community engagement.

“Dokolo technical school stands out not only for its sporting excellence but also for its administrative leadership. The purchase of the school bus is a remarkable achievement that demonstrates the commitment of school management and parents,” Eryatu said.
He further pledged to push for the fulfillment of longstanding presidential pledges to the school, which he said have been pending for several years.
Representing District LC5 chairperson James Otoo Apili, district council speaker Joel Opota Okuma described the school as a center of excellence both academically and in co-curricular activities.
“Dokolo technical dchool is among the best-performing institutions in Uganda. We pledge our total support and collaboration with the foundation body for its continued development,” Opota said.
He urged parents to support their children’s talents, especially in areas like sports and technical skills, which he said are crucial for future career development.
“Let’s also embrace apiary projects and other income-generating activities to improve household incomes,” Opota added.
The chairperson of the School’s board of governors, Julius Ocur Odwee, praised parents for choosing and supporting a technical school, emphasizing that their choice has elevated Dokolo technical school to national prominence.
“Our school has excelled in four key areas: sports, academics, transportation advancement, and national recognition. We are now a model institution across the country,” said Ocur Odwee.
However, he cautioned the school management against any misuse or mismanagement of the newly acquired school bus.
“This is a community asset. Any corruption or misuse related to the bus will hinder our development efforts. Let us protect and maintain it responsibly,” he warned.
The Bishop of Lango Diocese, Rt. Rev. Prof. Alfred Olwa, who graced the celebration, commended the students for their hard work, determination, and unity that led them to national victory.
“You have demonstrated what is possible when students, teachers, and communities work together. I thank the district stakeholders for providing the necessary support to this institution,” the Bishop said.
He encouraged the school to maintain its winning spirit not only in sports but also in academics and other aspects of student development.
“Continue striving for excellence. Sports and education go hand in hand in nurturing holistic citizens. Your success is inspiring and should be sustained,” Olwa urged.
The celebrations ended on a high note with traditional dances, a parade of the sports teams, and an inspection of the new school bus.
