Dokolo North Member of Parliament, Joseph Jones Ogwal, has warned residents against selling relief seeds, emphasising that the supplies are meant to address the escalating hunger crisis.

The district is set to receive over 41,000 kilograms of food relief from the Office of the Prime Minister, following the recent severe drought that has triggered an acute hunger emergency across Uganda.

The situation has been particularly dire in the Karamoja sub-region, where nearly 473,000 people are currently in a food crisis and food-related insecurity.

Speaking to tndNews, Uganda, on Monday, August 10, 2026, MP Ogwal, who also serves as the Lango Parliamentary Group spokesperson, confirmed that the relief allocation follows a formal request by the Dokolo District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Members of Parliament from the area.

He noted that the district has secured 4,000 kilograms of maize and 1,000 kilograms of beans, attributing the need to the prolonged dry spell that heavily affected Dokolo district, one of the hardest-hit areas in the Lango sub-region.

According to Ogwal, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) has confirmed that the consignment is expected to arrive in Dokolo on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

He revealed that the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Barbara Akech, has been tasked with receiving the seeds and ensuring they are securely stored ahead of the distribution exercise.

LPG spokesperson further disclosed that the RDC will convene a stakeholders’ meeting involving the district’s three Members of Parliament and other local leaders to agree on a transparent distribution plan.

He stressed that the objective is to ensure the relief reaches the intended beneficiaries in both Dokolo North and Dokolo South, particularly in light of the devastating effects of prolonged drought and destructive hailstorms that have ruined crops and livelihoods.

The legislator issued a strong warning to traders against purchasing the government-provided relief seeds.

MP Ogwal urged beneficiaries to receive and utilise the items as intended, reiterating that the program is part of a collective effort to combat poverty, which remains one of the country’s most pressing challenges.
