Police in Dokolo district are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected murder of Ogwal Jimmy John, 41.

Ogwal’s body was recovered floating in Olweny Swamp, Agwata town council, Dokolo district.

The case was registered at Agwata Town Council Police Station.

At about 3:17 pm, the incident was reported by Alele Christine, 38, housewife and peasant farmer and resident of Okwor Cell, Tetugo “A” Ward, Agwata town council.

SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO North Kyoga Region said the deceased was the LC1 secretary of Okwor Cell and a peasant farmer.

Teachers Olot Jaspher, 27, Opio Justine Innocent, 24, Okello Benedict Moses, 23, and Ojwok Samuel Baker, 24, all of Next Generation Primary School have been arrested following the murder.

Preliminary findings indicate that on May 9, 2026, at around 2pm the deceased left his home for the Tetugo trading centre to socialise with friends.

At around 10pm after allegedly becoming intoxicated, he was escorted by a friend identified as Obala, who later left him on the way. “The deceased never returned home,” SP Okema said.

On May 10, 2026, at 11am, Odongo informed the deceased’s wife via telephone that a shirt and a SIM card suspected of belonging to the deceased had been recovered near the staff quarters of Next Generation Primary School.

“Upon verification, the wife confirmed that the shirt belonged to her missing husband, prompting her to report a case of disappearance at Agwata Town Council Police Station for further investigations.”

On May 12, 2026, at midday, a fisherman identified as Obim Joel discovered the body of the deceased floating in Olweny Swamp while fishing and reported the matter to the LC1 chairperson of Okwor Cell, Obula Charles, who informed the police of the matter.

SP Okema said a team of police officers from Dokolo District CPS led by the D/CID/O, homicide detectives and the D/SOCO visited and processed the crime scene, which was documented accordingly.

The body of the deceased was recovered, identified by biological relatives, and conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital on Police Forms pending postmortem examination.

Exhibits, including the deceased’s shirt, were also recovered. Okema said in a statement on Wednesday that investigations are ongoing.

He added that statements are still being recorded from relevant witnesses, while the scene at the bar where the deceased was last seen drinking and the location where the shirt and SIM card were recovered will be revisited.
