A man in his 30s who contested for the local council chairperson’s seat against three others, including his father, has emerged the winner.
Muhumuza Francis aka Franko emerged winner on an independent ticket. He won massively with 245 votes, beating three other candidates, including his father, Kimezere Gabriel.
His father was a candidate for the NRM party and was seeking the Kijogo Cell chairmanship in Kibingo Ward, Hoima West City Division.
Kimezere Gabriel scored 2 votes; Barongo Umar of ANT received 23, and Bategeira Edward of the independent party received 168 votes, respectively.
Former LC1 chairperson, Kyaligonza Julius, gave up on politics for other life careers after serving for years.
The new village leader promised to provide solutions to challenges facing communities with more efforts on protecting public land and promoting youth participation in government programmes.
“I will also ensure that there is balance in service delivery by creating platforms for local communities’ demand for accountability from their leaders in the government,” Muhumuza added.
Muhumuza also called for cohesion among different stakeholders in ensuring better service delivery in communities.
Ayebale, Jenefa Mbabazi, and Tumusiime Patrick, young residents of the village, appreciated the victory, saying that having young leaders will help promote youth participation in government programmes.
Elsewhere, in Kibingo Upper Cell, former LC1 chairperson Musinguzi Samuel of NRM retained his seat with 156 votes against his opponent Muhumuza Ramanzani, who scored 25 votes on an independent ticket.
Relatedly, in Kibingo Lower Cell, Mutegeki Andrew of NRM also retained his seat unopposed.
