37 LC chairpersons back Okodo Peter for Kyoga North MP seat
Amolatar | Local council chairpersons at the LC1 and LC2 levels in Amolatar have expressed support for Peter Okodo’s bid for the Kyoga North County MP seat in 2026.
A coalition of over 37 local council chairpersons, including five LC2s, representing five parishes in Abeja sub-county, believe Okodo is the right leader.
On Sunday, November 24, 2024, these leaders met at the local council 1 chairperson’s office in Okwor village, Abeja parish, to discuss the various challenges they face.
Nelson Omara, the LC1 chairperson of Abeja village, emphasized the need for the government to provide dignified burial arrangements for all local council leaders, similar to those provided for other top political figures in the country.
Omara also expressed concern about the low compensation received by LC1 chairpersons in comparison to other political leaders.
He urged Okodo to advocate for increased pay in Parliament if he wins the upcoming election. Currently, LC1s receive only shs120,000 per year.
Dickens Etum, Okwor village’s local council 1 chairperson, praised Okodo for addressing their challenges, pointing out that the government frequently overlooks their contributions to societal development.
Leo Obonyo, the LC2 chairperson of Akol Parish in Abeja sub-county, thanked Okodo for recognizing their contributions to the community.
Obonyo gave Okodo a thump up for his one million shillings contribution to the LC1 and LC2 joint SACCO.

Peter Okodo, the director of the Jerusalem Institute of Health Sciences, praised the local council chairpersons’ leadership and highlighted their contributions to the advancement of the nation.
Okodo has pledged to continue assisting local leaders in Kyoga North. He stated that his efforts are motivated by the challenge of community organization, emphasizing the Abeja LCs’ unity.
He also urged Kyoga North’s other local councils to follow the Abeja LCs’ example of unity.
Okodo told the leaders that he is committed to improving the education system and assisting various groups in obtaining benefits from government programs.
According to the chairperson of the Abeja LCs, the organization was founded in 2022 and is making progress thanks to their SACCO.
