Amolatar district advances her apiculture farming

On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the Amolatar district leadership received a significant boost to its apiculture sector with the delivery of beehives for the fourth time to the Alii beekeepers’ group.

This donation is part of the ongoing Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP), a government initiative funded by the World Bank. The project is focused on promoting climate-resilient farming practices across the country.

Dulson Okello Samuel, UCSATP’s focal point in Amolatar and the acting principal entomologist, highlighted the financial contributions that underpin this initiative.

The Alii beekeepers’ group, he said, contributed 20% of their required shs7 million, while the government provided 80% of the shs28 million allocated for these inputs.

Along with 200 beehives, the group received various essential kits designed to enhance their beekeeping productivity.

Dulson emphasised that items are expected to significantly improve apiculture productivity within the district by supporting sustainable pollination and honey production.

This, he told tndNews, Uganda, aligns with the broader goals of the project to implement climate-smart agriculture that both mitigates environmental impacts and boosts local livelihoods.

Expressing gratitude, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Amolatar, Geofrey Vuciri, thanked MAAIF and partners for selecting the district for such “an impactful project.”

He urged the community to protect the beehives from potential threats like wildfires to maximise the benefits.

Vuciri reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating poverty at the grassroots level through initiatives like UCSATP.

Awio Mike, the secretary for works and production encouraged the Alii beekeepers’ group to utilise the inputs effectively to generate sustainable income.

He also called upon other groups yet to contribute their share of funds to do so promptly in order to access similar benefits.

Otema Sam, chairperson of the Alii beekeepers, expressed his happiness and appreciation toward the district leadership and external partners for their support.

He assured stakeholders of the group’s commitment to increasing honey production, which will contribute to improved livelihoods and economic growth.
