Six injured, 3 trapped as Mbale City building’s fifth floor gave way

Uganda Red Cross Society acted to save lives after a building collapsed in Namakwekwe Estate, Mbale City at 2am.

The Society said the building’s fifth floor gave way. “Six people have been injured, and three individuals remain trapped under the debris.”

In a statement, Uganda Red Cross Society they were alerted through the toll-free line at 2:17 a.m. “Within minutes, our ambulance teams working closely with the police and local volunteers—were on the scene providing life-saving first aid, evacuating the injured, and coordinating rescue efforts.

“Our teams remain on the ground, supporting search and rescue operations as we await heavy excavation equipment to safely reach those still trapped. Every second counts, and our responders continue to work tirelessly.”

They commend the swift coordination between emergency responders and the courage of community volunteers assisting at the scene.
