Amolatar | The Uganda Red Cross Society and the Amolatar district local government held a stocktaking meeting at Amolatar Town View as the former’s project came to an end.
The meeting, held on July 17, was to account for the Society’s various activities in Amolatar and to ensure continuity beyond the project.
Joel Kitutu, manager of emergency preparedness and response at the Uganda Red Cross Society, stated that they have been working on an eco-friendly project in Amolatar for two years.
According to Kitutu, the project accomplished a lot. For example, they were able to establish a district disaster management committee.
He stated that despite the fact that the committee was not functioning, they were able to discuss with the district and Uganda Red Cross Society supported their operation.
They were also successful in developing a contingency plan for the Amolatar district.
The Uganda Red Cross Society, according to Kitutu, has a trained rapid response team that will educate community members.
Robert Aya, the LC3 chairman of the Akwon sub-county, praised the Uganda Red Cross Society for their amazing work in Akwon.
Training in catastrophe risk reduction, according to Aya, helped the people of the Akwon sub-county. The local leader said Akwon is a disaster-prone area.
Akwon was able to establish a sub-county disaster management committee to ensure the project’s continuation.
The Red Cross Society provided the community with radio sets to facilitate access to information.
Eumu Patrict Kauma, the secretary for production who represented the LC5 chairman at the meeting, appealed to heads of departments who were trained to spread the information to the community.
Ogonye Peter, Assistant RDC of Amolatar, stated during the meeting’s conclusion that there are still communication gaps regarding disaster management awareness.
He urged the district to use various platforms, such as radio stations, to deliver disaster messages to the communities.
