President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni also President-elect for the next five years starting in May until 2031 is scheduled to hold the NRM victory party in Lira City this coming weekend.
As plans get going, police in the North Kyoga region (Lango) said in conjunction with sister security agencies including the UPDF, Uganda Prison Service, intelligence, and other security organs, they inform the general public of the forthcoming visit of the President of the Republic of Uganda.
SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO of North Kyoga region, Museveni’s visit follows an invitation extended by the Director General of the External Security Organization, Ambassador Joseph Ocwet.
“The public is hereby invited to attend the official function, which will be held at Lango College Playground,” SP Okema said.
He revealed that comprehensive security arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety of all attendees before, during, and after the event. “These include well-coordinated operational orders and deployment plans involving all security agencies.
“In this regard, the police urge the public to remain vigilant and alert to potential security threats, including but not limited to terrorism, robbery, defilement, rape, housebreaking, theft, pick pocketing as well as alcohol and drug abuse,” the PRO said in a statement on Thursday.
Given the anticipated influx of people from various Districts into Lira City, Okema added there is a likelihood of increased traffic congestion and road usage.
“All road users are therefore strongly advised to plan their journeys in advance, avoid reckless driving, and strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to minimize the risk of road traffic accidents.”
The Uganda Police Force in the North Kyoga Region assures the public of its full preparedness and unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all persons.
“We remain dedicated to fulfilling our Constitutional mandate of protecting life and property, maintaining law and order, and preventing and detecting crime, in close collaboration with other security agencies and civil authorities.
All members of the public attending the event are required to comply with security procedures at the venue, including screening through walk-through machines operated by security personnel.
Any suspicious persons, items, or activities, Okema advised, should be reported immediately to the nearest security officer for prompt action.
The Police will intensify both foot and motorised patrols, particularly in identified crime-prone areas. Intelligence-led operations will also be conducted to proactively address any emerging threats.
The CCTV Command Centre will maintain 24-hour surveillance, continuously monitoring activities and providing real-time updates to ground commanders to ensure swift response to any incidents.
Saying “security is a shared responsibility,” SP Okema reiterated police’s readiness and commitment to safeguarding the President’s visit and ensuring the safety of the general public.
“We call upon all citizens to cooperate with security personnel and to remain law-abiding throughout this period.”
