Elia Olet PS receives shs542m from Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for classroom block construction

Elia Olet Primary School in Lira City East Division has received shs542 from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to boost education standards.

The funds will be used to construct two classroom blocks, a modern library, and a standard office block.

Speaking on Monday, April 27, 2026, during the handover of the site to the contractor, Francis Ocen Dorish, District President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, confirmed that among many government-aided primary schools in Lira City, they chose Elia Olet because it has the highest number of learners.

Ocen added that the funds would be used for the construction of two new classroom blocks, one modern library, and an additional standard office within a period of four months.

“This will enable our children to access and revise their studies freely with a modern library on the premises,” he said.

Eng. Tonachk Oluma Obita, Managing Director of GAMAF Ventures Limited, promised to deliver quality work within the four-month timeline.

“Since today we have done the groundbreaking, as GAMAF Ventures Limited, we shall work together with the City Engineer to ensure we provide standard classroom blocks and the school administration block,” he stated.

The Deputy Mayor of Lira City, Rebecca Alwedo Ogole, who represented the entire city at the groundbreaking ceremony, acknowledged that the project will improve education standards for pupils.

She noted that Eila Olet Primary has a large number of learners who need more classroom blocks and access to reading books during their free time.

“As a City, we shall monitor the project to ensure the contractor produces great work,” Alwedo Ogole said. She thanked the Church for choosing Elia Olet, adding that the school is progressively achieving quality Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) results.

Meanwhile, Sarah Aol, the head teacher of the school, explained that Elia Olet Primary currently has a total enrollment of over 1,332 learners. “Due to this high number of pupils, we face classroom block challenges at the moment,” she said.

Aol appreciated the donors for choosing her school. “I am so happy about this initiative. As management, we have managed to produce more desks and beds, but we had a challenge of where to put all this equipment.

“We shall work together with the City Education Department to ensure this project benefits our young generation.”

It is evident that the school has greatly improved in academic performance, smartness, discipline, and overall development, thanks to the committed teachers under the able leadership of female head teacher Sarah Aol De Aloi.
