USSSA Kwania branch fines Aduku SS over baseless petition; regional qualifiers confirmed

The Uganda Secondary School Sports Association (USSSA) Kwania district branch has slapped a fine of shs1,505,000 on Aduku Secondary School.

This penalty was issued for disrupting the tournament organizers and causing a one-day delay in the competition schedule by filing a petition that was ultimately found to have no merit.

Among the seven schools that participated, Aduku SS filed a formal petition against Okwir Aron, a student of Abongomola Seed SS. They alleged that the student had only studied up to Primary Four and was therefore ineligible to participate in the football tournament organized by USSSA-Kwania.

Robson Molo, the Publicity Secretary for USSSA in Kwania, confirmed the report on the petition. He stated that the committee took the matter seriously, even involving the police from Kwania Central Police Station (CPS) to escort sports officials to the school where the student sat for his Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

The investigation confirmed that the student successfully completed P7, passing in Grade One, and was even among the top students awarded by MP Okae Bob—a fact backed by photographic evidence of him receiving his award among other bright candidates.

Molo cautioned sports officials and schools against filing petitions that lack standing and sufficient evidence.

Washington Omwaa, the vice chairperson of USSSA in Kwania, noted that out of the seven competing schools, four have qualified for the regional level in both boys’ and girls’ categories: Aduku SS, Ikwera Girls SS, Nambeso Agro SS, and Inomo SS.

Joe Robinson Okwir, the chairperson of the Kwania District Secondary School Headteachers’ Association and Headteacher of Inomo SS, commended the efforts of headteachers and sports teachers.

He praised the high level of discipline shown compared to previous years and urged the teams to maintain a sportsmanlike spirit as they progress toward the National level.

Augustine Ojungu, the deputy headteacher of Nambyeso Agro SS, welcomed the results and called upon the district, teachers, and parents to provide the necessary support to the students as they prepare for the next stage of the competition.

Isaac Ekwang, the Acting Kwania District Sports Officer, urged the four qualifying teams to represent Kwania as a united front at the Regional level in Oyam. He encouraged them to set aside any local rivalries or grudges and compete as brothers and sisters to bring glory to the district.
