Dokolo’s MP Aguti oversees Amodo ‘bridge’ construction journey

Dokolo district is celebrating a major development milestone following the official handover of the construction site for the Amodo ‘bridge.’

The project, lobbied for by the District Woman Representative, Sarah Aguti Nyangkori, promises to reconnect communities and boost local trade.

MP Aguti who won a full term in the January 15 parliamentary poll, has brought hope and joy to her constituents after the recent handover event.

The bridge will link Dokolo South to Dokolo North, providing the local community with reliable access to markets and other essential services.

Speaking on Monday, March 9, 2026, during the site handover to the contractor, MP Aguti Nyangkori recounted the project’s troubled history. She explained that the project had been stalled for over five years.

“In 2020, before I joined Parliament in 2024, the government, through the Ministry of Works and Transport, delivered equipment and materials like stones, cement, and culverts to this site with the aim of building the bridge, but it all failed,” she said.

She lamented that shortly after the 2021 general elections, all the materials that had been brought to the site were removed and transported back to the regional store in Gulu City.

“But in 2024, when I joined Parliament, I went directly to the office of the Ministry of Works and Transport and lobbied for the new construction of this Amodo swamp bridge to improve accessibility and connectivity for my people,” she stated.

“I know that when this work is completed, accessing markets across the district will be much easier.”

She elaborated on her efforts, saying, “In 2024, I went to the ministry with the intention of finding out from the Minister why all the construction materials that were put in place were removed from Dokolo. I was told the materials were taken to the regional stores in Gulu. But since then, through my efforts, they have come back to start the project.”

According to the Bill of Quantity (BoQ), the Amodo swamp bridge will connect the people of Adwoki in Agwata sub-county (Dokolo North) to Apenyoweo Parish in Okwongodul sub-county (Dokolo South).

dokoloAguti expressed confidence that the project will be completed within the timeframe allocated to the contractor.

Sam Aguma, 52; a resident of Apenyoweo Parish in Okwongodul sub-county, thanked MP Aguti for making follow up with the ministry of work and transport on this matter.

“This is the kind of leader we want,” Aguma said. He added that before the project kicked off, the lack of a bridge had severely affected schoolchildren, who struggled to cross the swamp to get to the other side, especially during the rainy season.

Akullu Socvia, 46, is a businesswoman and resident of Adwoki in Agwata sub-county, heaped praise on the MP. She acknowledged Aguti’s effectiveness, remarking that she has been a strong force for the district.

“In only one year and some months that Aguti has been in Parliament, Dokolo is now on the map of this country,” Akullu said. She thanked the MP and expressed her anticipation for easier access to markets in Dokolo South once the work is finished.

Odongo Martin, a boda rider from Agwata town council, also spoke on the significance of the construction. The 28-year-old noted that riders from both Dokolo North and South have been unable to transport customers directly to the other side, forcing travelers to take long detours through Dokolo Town.

“I know we are going to make more money after this work is complete,” he said optimistically.

The contractor has pledged to do a wonderful and comprehensive work within the time that has been allocated to him.
