Police in Kakumiro have arrested eight alleged suspects in connection with the murder of a 14-year-old boy in Kakumiro district.
According to SP David Otabongo, the Kakumiro District Police Commander, police arrested the suspects following the receipt of information about the killing of Peter Iranzi.
Aged 14, Peter was the son of Kolodi, a resident of Kyeeza LC1 in Nkooko sub-county, Kakumiro district.
He was killed on March 22, 2026.
The DPC said that the deceased was reportedly killed by unknown assailants on the above date while he was going to fetch water on Sunday night.
He was with two other children when he was attacked by the unknown armed assailants.
Following the incident, Otabongo said that reports emerged that angry residents stormed the home of Edward Bisirikirwa, suspecting him to be behind Peter Iranzi’s death.
He said that angry residents caused malicious damage to properties worth millions of shillings, including the house, livestock, and plantations.
SP Otabongo added that police intervened and arrested eight suspects to help in the investigations process.
Additionally, SP Otabongo appealed to the general public to avoid engaging in criminal activities.
He urged residents to report any misunderstandings to the police or area leadership for proper management. He condemns locals against taking laws into their hands.
The police have launched investigations into the matter, he added.
