In a statement to the press in North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, regional PRO said territorial police of Otuke district are investigating a case of murder that occurred on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026, in Barjobi village.

SP Okema also revealed that on February 15, 2026, at about 7am, Opaka Musa, 42, a peasant and resident of Ogelicho village, Ajur parish, Ogwete sub-county in Otuke district, reported a case of murder that occurred on February 14 at about midday in Barjobi village, Atira parish, Ogwete sub-county.

The deceased has been identified as Obalang Francis, 53. He was a peasant farmer and resident of Agweng village, Atira parish, Ogwete.

On Valentine’s Day, the PRO said the deceased was expected to attend a clan meeting but had not arrived at the scheduled time.

“Consequently, some clan members, including the suspects identified as Ojok Isaac, Otim, Okello Ajur, and Apule Olipa, all residents of Atira parish, Ogwete sub-county, were tasked to escort him to the meeting venue.

“Upon reaching his home, the suspects allegedly began assaulting him while escorting him to the meeting venue, causing him to lose consciousness. They thereafter transported him on a motorcycle to the meeting venue and laid him aside, expecting him to regain consciousness as the meeting proceeded,” SP Okema’s statement reads.

However, when Obalang was later checked on, he was found unresponsive. “Upon realising this, the suspects fled the scene. The deceased was not taken to any nearby health facility for medical attention, and he was later confirmed dead.

Police responded to the scene, SP Okema said, adding the scene was examined and documented. “Relevant statements have been recorded from witnesses to aid investigations.

“The body of the deceased was retrieved and conveyed to the Health Centre IV for postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

No arrests had been made by press time, and efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the suspects who are currently on the run.

We condemn very strongly such inhumane treatment orchestrated by some clan leaders, and appeal to the public to be alert and report any sightings of the suspects to any nearby police station for arrest and prosecution.

This is a developing story.
