Israel-U.S.- Iran war: Uganda govt speaks

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uganda has issued “Security Notice to all Ugandan Citizens in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Bagiire Vincent Waiswa, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, in a notice dated February 28, said the Government of Uganda is monitoring the situation in the Middle East with grave concern.

He added that the Government of Uganda calls on all parties to exercise restraint, prioritize dialogue, and refrain from any further escalation.

“In light of the escalating Security situation, all Ugandan citizens in the territory of Iran, who can, are advised to take serious precautions for their safety and leave Iran through any possible means,” Waiswa added.

The Government of Uganda, he announced, has taken the decision to withdraw all non-essential staff from the Embassy in Tehran for their safety. Consular services are severely limited for the time being as alternative arrangements are put in place.

His statement added that Ugandans who are staying in the country are urged to alert community leaders of their whereabouts, stay indoors and monitor media for developments. Information about evacuations will be limited until the situation normalizes

“Due to the extremely fluid situation that is affecting international travel, all Ugandan citizens are strongly advised to suspend travel to the Middle East until further notice,” Bagiire concluded.

On Saturday, Israel and the United States bombed Iran, killing dozens of school children, according to multiple media sources.

Apart from children, property and influential figures have been brought down.
