UPC’s message to electorate after Jalameso whipped Obua in Ajuri

In a statement issued on January 28, Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party reflected on the 2026 general elections, citing Ajuri County in Alebtong district as an area of celebration.

Following the January 15 parliamentary elections and January 27 MP poll rerun in Ajuri, UPC will send at least 12 MPs to the 12th Parliament. Majority of these MPs-elect are from Lango sub-region.

Muzeyi Faizo, UPC head of media and communications, in a Wednesday statement, wrote: “As we celebrate our victories in the ongoing 2026 general elections especially the resounding victory of Ajuri County where the UPC Candidate Comrade Jalameso Fred won and was finally declared the Member of Parliament (MP) elect to the 12th Parliament of the Republic of Uganda following the rerun in the hotly contested 18 polling stations on January 27, 2026, the Party calls upon all members and supporters to remain very focused.”

He also urged members and supporters to be “vigilant as we prepare for the election of sub-ounty chairpersons and councillors representing parishes as well as Special Interest Groups (SIGs).

At this point, Faizo said, the party is very much thankful and appreciative to the Party President Hon. Jimmy Akena and Cabinet, Local Party Leadership, UPC elected MPs and those at local government as well as the entire membership and supporters for beating all odds to rigorously protect and defend the will of the people in Ajuri County where there were various attempts to rob UPC of its victory.

“Their tireless efforts have also made UPC win various positions at Local Government.

“This sacrifice, commitment and determination have rewarded the rebuilding efforts for the Party and a testament that with hard work and organisation, victory can be secured.”

Through “this kind of spirit,” he said that the “party can forge and reclaim its status as vanguard and defender for the needs of a common man.”

“Let the same zeal and determination be extended to the last leg of the local government elections at the Sub County level scheduled for Wednesday 4th February 2026.

“UPC is calling upon all voters to turn up in big numbers and vote for UPC Candidates. This goes a long way in enabling the Party to link up with grassroots and ensure formidable mobilisation.

“As we speak now, the elections for the Youth Representatives to Parliament are ongoing and UPC is competing in the race for Youth MP Northern Uganda with Wacha Elizabeth Shakirah as the Party Flag Bearer whose election is being conducted at Mvara Senior Secondary School in Arua City.”

UPC says it is fully rallying behind candidate Shakirah and is hopeful she will win this race.
