The territorial Police in Oyam district said they have recorded a fatal road crash that occurred on January 11, 2026, at about 4pm at Atapara trading center – Atapara-Oyam road, Kamdini sub-county.
The crash involved a blue in colour fuso truck with registration number UBE 837T, whose driver reportedly fled from the scene.
Two pedestrians and several passengers were involved, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, PRO for North Kyoga Region said on Monday.
SP Okema, in a statement, identified the deceased pedestrian as Obote Exodus, a male juvenile aged 10 years old. Until his unfortunate death, he was a resident of Atapara village, Kamdini sub-county, Oyam district.
“He died on arrival at Atapara Hospital,” SP Okema revealed.
The second pedestrian, he said, was a male juvenile, whose particulars are yet to be established. “He was rushed to Atapara Hospital by a good Samaritan.”
Other victims were passengers traveling in motor vehicle UBE 837T. He identified them as:
●Aloc Desmond, 16.
●Ogwang Darius, 6.
●Otir Tonny, 20.
●Oriang David, 42.
●Odoc Calvin,16;
●Obanya Kene, 26 and;
●Aroko Ruth, 17.
All passengers are residents of Ngai sub-county, Oyam district, and were admitted to Atapara Hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the motor vehicle was overloaded with passengers traveling from Ngai to attend a football match in Kamdini.
“Upon reaching Atapara, the vehicle encountered another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. As the driver attempted to give way, he lost control and the vehicle overturned onto its side, striking the pedestrians and injuring passengers.
The scene was visited and documented by No. 57344 Corporal Okongo Joachim and No. 76491 Police Constable Wakiche Faluku.
The motor vehicle was later recovered and is currently parked at Kamdini Town Council Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV).
The driver, SP Okema said, is being pursued.
