Police in the North Kyoga Region have arrested three individuals for attempting to bribe a Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) scout in Lira City.
The suspects were apprehended while trying to influence the ongoing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
According to the North Kyoga region police PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the suspects have been identified as Odongo George, Ekut Simon, 32, and Awoko Lavoiser, 26. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 2, 2025.
The trio allegedly offered Ayoo Christine, a UNEB scout assigned to Oyam district, one million Uganda shillings in 50,000-shilling denominations.
The bribe was intended to compromise the integrity of the national examinations, which began on October 31, 2025, with candidate briefings, SP Okema said.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the suspects at Garden Inn Hotel in Lira City. The money was recovered and has been exhibited as evidence in the case registered at Lira City Central Division Police Station.
SP Okema issued a strong warning to the public: “The Police, working closely with UNEB, will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone attempting to compromise the credibility of national examinations.
“The long and indomitable arm of the law will firmly reach out to all offenders.”
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of the probe.
The Uganda Police Force’s leadership in Lango sub-region has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the integrity of national examinations and ensuring justice is delivered without fear or favor.
