Police in Lira City have detained Hashim Yasin, 24, who is a teacher at Answar Mosque Primary School, for allegedly engaging in homosexuality acts with a pupil aged 10.
The victim is of Ayago Primary School in Lira City East.
The alleged crime occurred on Easter Monday at the suspect’s residence in Atego Ward, Lira City East Division.
According to the police PRO for North Kyoga Region SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the victim and other four friends (all minors) visited Yasin’s home where the suspect showed them cartoons on his phone.
After a few minutes, he allegedly applied petroleum jelly and sodomized the victim. SP Okema disclosed that Yasin offered shs1,000 to the sodomized teenage boy to share with other children
The pain
SP Okema revealed that on April 21, the victim reported anal pain to his mother after returning home.
On the following day, April 22, his father based in Patongo, Agago alerted the police and case filed was opened at Lira City CPS.

SP Okema, however, said the suspect – Yasin was charged with aggravated defilement and homosexuality contrary to Sections 129 & 145 of Penal Code Act.
Both victim and witness’ statements were recorded, scene was documentated by scene of crime officers pending medical reports.
As of Friday, the suspect was still in detention at Lira City CPS.
“This repeats a disturbing pattern. We’ll ensure justice prevails,” stated Okema, noting similar past cases.
Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2023 prescribes severe penalties for such offenses, especially involving minors.
