Ugandan troops complete post-mission training after Somalia deployment

Brig Gen Michael Kabango, the UPDF’s Chief of Staff for Land Forces, officially closed the post-mission ideological course for Battle Group (BG) 40 and United Nations Guard Unit (UNGU) X on Thursday, following their deployment in Somalia.

The soldiers’ return to regular service following a demanding 12-month mission was commemorated with a ceremony at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre (IPSO-CT) in Singo.

Brig Gen Kabango, who represented Deputy Commander Land Forces Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, praised the troops’ tenacity and professionalism.

“This is not just about concluding a course; it is about welcoming back warriors who have carried our flag high, thanking them for their sacrifice, and sending them off to rest before their next assignment,” Brig Gen Kabango stated.

He urged the soldiers to maintain discipline, patriotism, and financial prudence while remaining committed to their duties.

Brig Gen Patrick Otongo, Commandant of IPSO-CT, stated that the troops’ outstanding performance demonstrated the value of their training.

He thanked the Ministry of Defence, Veteran Affairs, and the Land Force for their ongoing assistance in preparing troops for international peacekeeping missions.

BG 40 Commander Col Topher Magino and UNGU X Commander Lt Col David Emmanuel Odongo praised their troops for maintaining discipline and ensuring the mission’s success.

The duo encouraged their teams to maintain their professionalism as they reintegrate.
