Museveni is going to win massively – says Amb. Otengo

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had a massive rally at Oyam Boma Grounds on Tuesday, October 7, where he sold his ideas for the next five years.

Museveni spoke of the achievements made by his NRM government, including security and peace, education, wealth creation, and infrastructure, among others.

In power since 1986, Museveni, 81, is expected by his party to win next year’s presidential elections – with his main rival Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine of the National Unity Platform (NUP) tipped to come second.

Across different venues in the Lango sub-region, where he talked to his supporters, including those from the UPC and FDC parties, Museveni promised to double wealth creation funds under the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Currently, each parish in the country gets shs100m. In the next government, should he be reelected, Museveni promises to add an additional shs15m.

The additional funds, he says, will be for the parish or SACCO leaders since they are not allowed to benefit from the shs100m.

Additionally, the fishing communities, religious and cultural leaders, according to Museveni, will be supported with funds – so are the boda-boda associations and ghetto people.

High-profile diplomat predicts Museveni’s massive victory

Speaking to reporters at Oyam Boma Grounds after Museveni’s campaign speech, Ambassador Rebecca Amuge Otengo, Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti with residence in Addis Ababa, projected Museveni’s massive win.

According to Amb. Otengo, President Museveni has a substantive agenda for 2021-2031. “There is nothing he lies about. He’s honest, principled and tells you what he’s able to do. And you can see that we were in a discussion with the President and his voters; they had a discussion, it was a dialogue.”

The Ambassador, who is Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), as well as UNECA, said the people of Lango mean what they say, citing the different support the Lango have offered to Museveni.

“Not only from the NRM but also from the UPC leadership and FDC. So, the President is going to win massively.”

Otengo credits Museveni for bringing peace to Oyam and the entire Lango sub-region. “This part of Lango (Oyam) was so insecure that people could not stay here; all the people were moved to the camps but the people of Oyam remember that President Museveni still had time to come and visit them and fight the LRA.”

She also applauded the late Col. Okello Engola Macodwogo, who commanded the area under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief – Museveni.
