“With the flag in my hands, victory is around the corner and my focus is to engage with friends and partners abroad to come and join hands with us,” Nasser says.
Jinja—29, September 2020: The race for the Southern Division mayoral contest has gained momentum with the ruling NRM flag bearer Nasser Ashraf, almost certain of victory in the much-anticipated general elections early next year.
More than four others including FDC’s Kirunda Mubarak, William Ebusa Omaria, Musisi Kabughudo alias Badman, Simon Kasirye of Conservative Party (CP) and the aging James Mawanda, among others.
The 36-year-old politician who is completing his five-year stint as a councillor to the Jinja Municipal Council (as known formerly) secured the much-coveted flag after trouncing other competitors including veteran politicians in the NRM party primary elections.
“With the flag in my hands, victory is around the corner and my focus is to engage with friends and partners abroad to come and join hands with us,” Nasser says.
A proud holder of a bachelor’s degree in business management, Nasser is riding on the popularity and wealth of his father, Ashraf Mohammed, who died two years ago of heart complications.
Ashraf Mohammed has left behind a fleet of trucks (trailers and fussos) plus dozens of buildings and a motor garage now being managed by his son, Ashraf, who took over as a family heir.
Unlike some people who join elective politics as a source of employment and wealth, Nasser says this is a calling to go and use the gifts and exposure God has given him to serve humanity.
“… at the end of life, we all have to account before God (Allah) for all the leadership skills and knowledge given to us so we must strive to contribute to the welfare of our people…,” the ever-smiling politician adds.
Having widely travelled to countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and China, among others, Nasser says he has built up a network of potential investors who will be ready and willing to come to Jinja and invest.
