On September 23, 2025, at 10:14am, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for president in the 2026 general elections was duly nominated by the Electoral Commission.
Presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, 81, gained the support of over 2 million NRM members who offered their signatures for his smooth nomination exercise.
Museveni, who was nominated by EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, came to power in 1986 after years of bush war against the “bad regime.”
In 1996, Museveni was elected by the masses in the first constitutional elections after the 1995 Constitution was promulgated.
He has been in power since then. The Tuesday nomination marks his 7th term to continue holding power and authority over Uganda.
A few hours after his nomination, candidate Museveni addressed a big rally at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala – where he thanked the NRM supporters for their continued trust in him.
With his campaigns kicking off, tndNews understands that Museveni will start his official national campaign from Lango sub-region on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
Announcing how ready North Kyoga region security is ahead of Museveni’s week-long campaigns in Lango, PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema said the police are already working with other security agencies.
According to Afande Okema, the campaign trail will begin in Amolatar district on October 01, 2025.
“We are already working with other security agencies to ensure that all guidelines for public gatherings are adhered to for a peaceful and secure event.”
According to the schedule, the NRM Presidential candidate will start from Amolatar and the venue is seen as a move to consolidate support in the Teso-Lango corridor.
On August 17, Museveni was in Lango at Lango College playground for cattle compensation talks with local leaders.
Even when it appears that a select committee from Lango are likely to meet him at the State House before his return, cattle compensation and restocking promises will be part of his address throughout his stay in Lango.
Meanwhile, Okema assured the public of comprehensive measures to maintain order and safety throughout the campaign period.
