Jane Frances Acilo was on Thursday given the NRM party for Oyam district woman MP race after her resounding victory in the primary election.

According to the official results declared by Jackoline Adong, Oyam district NRM registrar, Jane got 69,492 votes.

Her second challanger, Apili Susan got 4,539 votes. Stella Anyango was last with 1,370 votes only.

Ajok Bless Otim, Iceme sub-county woman councillor to Oyam district council came third with 3,936 votes.

While campaigning ahead of the Thursday election, Jane Frances Acilo highlighted what she has already done for the people of Oyam district, and what she intends to do when elected in 2026.

She also promised to paint “Oyam district yellow,” signalling her commitment to ending the UPC 15-year dominance in the district, especially as women representation in Parliament is concerned.

NyayoLonyoIcingOtedero has been her trademark campaign slogan, and her political office says she’s standing on it beyond the 2026 elections.

Concerns have been raised by candidates in Oyam South and North who participated in the same primary elections, with some refusing to accept the results.

Nommy Otieno, who received 6,216 votes, has questioned the final results, claiming they do not represent the will of the people of Oyam South.

Opito Moses issued a statement on Friday morning, urging his supporters to stay calm and focused on the future.

According to Opito, all planned activities and pro-people projects in Oyam South will be unaffected by the Thursday results.

Patrick Ogwang Obura was given the flag after receiving 21,958 votes. Another candidate, Denis Okello, received 286 votes. According to registrar Adong, Opito got 1,708 votes.

In Oyam North, the final results have equally been rejected by some candidates who did not win. Okello Stephen got 4,695 votes, Wilbert Otala, 494; Willy Omodo Omodo, 22,641.

Omodo’s main challenger, Samuel Okello Engola came second with 14,396, according to the NRM registrar who was stopped from publicly announcing the final results.

Billy Nelly Otto B got 6,224 and Bala Daniel, 2,250. Otto, Okello Engola and Okello Stephen have all rejected the final declaration.
