The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party primary elections took place on July 17 across different village polling stations across the country.
The election was purposely to elect flag bearers for district woman and constituency MPs ahead of the general elections in 2026.
Verified voters lined up behind to vote a flag bearer of their choice.
While this important election was meant to reflect the “true will” of the voters as verified in the register, some candidates – especially those who participated in Oyam South have refused to welcome it.
One of the candidates, Opito Moses cited poor voter sensitization which he said resulted to extremely low voter turn-up across polling stations.
“There were no voter verification exercises and nearly anyone present was “open to vote.” This was observed at the Okarowok and Te-Ginnery polling stations in Akaka parish, Aber sub-county, where two people who had voted from the former station were pulled out of the line with intentions to vote again infavour of another candidate.
Unlike the agents of a single candidate, none of our agents were given access to signed declaration forms, Opito added. “We believe that figures were entered into the so-called declaration forms.”
Some polling stations reportedly held elections hours before the official polling time, Opito said in a statement issued on Friday morning. “This could mean that a few people, or many, were never verified.”
Having considered the foregoing, he stated, “We believe that the final results do not accurately reflect the TRUE WILL of the people of Oyam South. We encourage all of our supporters to remain calm and optimistic about the future, as the road to the general election in 2026 is still within reach.”
Nothing stops!
He, Opito, announced that borehole repairs and new drilling will continue as planned, as will the distribution of cocoa and pine seedlings to different groups.
Everyone in Oyam South, Opito urged, “should be aware that our development projects, wealth creation initiatives, and people-centered agenda are unaffected by the outcome of the primary election.”
“The journey to ably represent Oyam South in the 12th Parliament has just started, and I am more than motivated.”
