Amolatar district local government has taken a significant step towards promoting health and wellness among its workforce by launching the “Amolatar Physical Fitness Club.”

The club officially commenced on June 16, 2025, at the district headquarters and it aims to encourage civil servants and community members to embrace physical fitness as part of their daily routines.

Organized by the offices of the Chief Administrative Officer and the Resident District Commissioner, the launch of the club underscores a government policy mandating all civil servants to maintain physical fitness to enhance service delivery.

Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Paul Mbiiwa emphasized the importance of participation, urging all civil servants, stakeholders, and institutions to join the fitness sessions held every Wednesday and Thursday.

“Maintaining physical fitness is not just a personal responsibility but a collective one,” said Mbiiwa. “It is essential for improving our efficiency in service delivery and overall productivity within the district.”

RDC Rwotlonyo highlighted the critical link between physical health and reducing the prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, hypertension, and diabetes.

“Health equates to wealth,” he stated. “I strongly recommend that everyone enroll in these fitness sessions, as investing in our health is truly an investment in our future.”

RDC Francis Okello Odoki Rwotlonyo expressed his concern over the alarming trend of civil servants succumbing to various diseases due to inadequate fitness levels.

On the inaugural day, the RDC remarked on the robust turnout and called upon corporate institutions, including banks, media, police, prisons, and the business community, to participate actively in the club, which will operate twice a week.

“Physical fitness is crucial not only for our physical health but also for our mental well-being,” Rwotlonyo added. “It has a direct impact on the quality of service we provide to our constituents.”

Amolatar District Health Officer (DHO), Dr. Jimmy Odongo emphasized the multifaceted benefits of physical fitness, which include maintaining health, managing stress, enhancing brain function, and ensuring proper blood circulation.

He encouraged individuals from all walks of life to integrate physical fitness into their routines as a key component of their well-being.

“Regular exercise can significantly reduce stress levels and improve cognitive functions,” stated Odongo. “I urge everyone to consider physical fitness not merely as an activity but as essential therapy for a healthier lifestyle.”

In addition to encouraging participation, the physical fitness trainer invited everyone—regardless of age—to start engaging in physical activities.

Charles Osendro reiterated the message that embracing physical fitness can help individuals combat various diseases and lower the risk of health complications in the long run.

The Amolatar Physical Fitness Club represents a community-oriented approach to public health and wellness, fostering a culture of fitness that benefits not only civil servants but the entire community.

As participants gather twice a week, it is clear that the council’s commitment to improving health outcomes through this initiative marks an important step towards a healthier, more productive future for Amolatar district.
