A 50-year-old man, a resident of Hoima district, is currently in an isolation unit at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital (HRRH) following suspected ebola disease in him.
Hoima District Health Officer (DHO), Dr Lawrence Tumusiime said that the suspect is a resident of Runga village along the shores of Lake Albert in Kapapi sub-county, Hoima district.
Without disclosing his identity in an interview, Dr Tumusiime, said that the old man had gone to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital (HRRH) seeking general health attention last Saturday when he showed Ebola disease related signs and symptoms.
The patient developed suspicion among health workers, leading to his isolation.
The DHO said that the suspect had a sign of nose bleeding, an Ebola sign.
He noted that besides isolation, they have also taken blood samples for laboratory tests as final results await.
The man, he said, hails from an area with a high risk of Ebola since they are at shore line with DRC.
“We have taken his blood samples and the bedsheets he was using to help test and we are waiting for final results tomorrow,” the DHO told tndNews, Uganda.
Recently, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) announced an Ebola outbreak in the Eastern part of the country, the region that borders Uganda in the West.
Due to possible infections, Uganda has postponed an annual Martyrs’ Day celebration for June 3, with pilgrims from as far as the DRC Congo and other regional countries attending.
