Oyam district: “Change is coming,” says Jane Frances Acilo

Oyam | Jane Frances Acilo has sent a message of hope and resilience to the people of Oyam, as her mission to transform it into an agrarian district becomes clearer.

On Tuesday, June 24, Acilo was duly nominated for the NRM party primary elections due next month.

Acilo, who is expected to win the upcoming election and hold the NRM flag for district woman MP race, has promised to turn Oyam district “yellow” as well.

“UPC has been in power for so long – especially the district woman MP. However, I have now come to stand and win the election and become the woman MP.”

“Change is coming,” Acilo said shortly after Dr Tanga Odoi, chairperson of the NRM electoral commission nominated her on June 24.

She added that “it’s now the NRM turn to take dominion over Oyam district and bring some new ideas.”

Francis Odongo Ali, chairperson of Jane Francis Acilo’s campaign team, described her as “the only capable person who will change the situations of our people.”

“She will make poverty disappear completely in Oyam district,” Ali added.

Acilo, a businesswoman and farmer who has turned politician, promises to champion grassroots development through commercial agriculture and other wealth-creation initiatives.

She has also pledged to make her Abja Farms in Myene sub-county “a model farm” for everyone in Oyam and Lango, irrespective of political, cultural and religious affiliations.

From Aber to Abok, Loro to Minakulu, Myene to Iceme, Aleka and Ngai; Otwal to Kamdini, Acilo has gained momentum among men, women and youth.

Odongo Constantine, Minakulu sub county Secretary for the elderly under the NRM, said he has seen a lot of things.

“One is that everyone who comes from Oyam district supports Jane Acilo and they are here to prove their love before the NRM electoral commission,” he said on Monday, June 23 ahead of nomination day.
