Acilo speaks to ecstatic supporters at Oyam boma ground

Oyam | Less than nine hours after being nominated on Tuesday morning in Kampala to run in the NRM party primary elections next month, Jane Frances Acilo set out for her home district of Oyam.

Acilo, whose convoy was waved at by hundreds of visibly excited young and old from Karuma to corner Kamdini; corner Atapara to Atapara through Acaba all the way to the Oyam boma ground, later addressed the massive crowd.

At the boma, she was joined by members of “the core campaign team of her “rival” UPC contender for the Oyam district woman MP seat.”

Before the crowd, this core team all vowed to work hard and campaign “door-to-door” for Acilo.

“I want to thank all of you for coming here. I am surprised by the overwhelming numbers at boma ground here. Thank you alot,” Acilo said as she started her speech.

She thanked those who took time to wait for her at boma from morning hours as she travelled from Kampala, saying, “It also shows love.”

“I have joined politics to demonstrate that even if you are a woman, you also can. I want to inspire young girls of Oyam who can also be an MP in the future.”

“Today, I am here to introduce myself to you so that when we go to the polls, you will know me better.

Acilo is promising to champion wealth creation through commercial agriculture, and market access for farm produce, emphasizing how maize seeds she distributed three months ago can help reduce household poverty.

“My other vision is on education, and to change the mindsets of our children, to come back home after their graduation to create jobs, but not seek for it.

“I want to empower women, so that they can manage their homes,” she promised.

Oyam is the biggest district in Uganda, Acilo told the gathering, promising to ensure that the government upgrades Oyam to have a district hospital to boost health services.

She predicted that in the next ten years, Oyam would be much bigger and more developed, on par with the rest of the country.
