The Lango bicycle riders’ team, led by chairman Derick Ogwal and his vice, Rev. Ajoli Jackson, has arrived in Mbarara City to participate in the prestigious national road cycling championship 2025.
However, the team’s preparations suffered a minor setback after one of their riders, Rebecca Achola, sustained a minor injury during a trial ride.
According to team leader Ogwal, Achola suffered a bruised shoulder and a slight injury to her lower jaw.
“Her condition is stable and is currently being closely monitored by our medical team,” he confirmed.

The national road cycling championship officially kicked off on Saturday, June 28, in Mbarara City, attracting top cyclists from across Uganda.
Districts represented include Masaka, Kabale, Mbale, Soroti, Gulu, Lira, Arua, Mityana, Kampala, and others.
Riders from various categories began arriving in Mbarara on Friday, June 27, and have since been engaging in final trial runs ahead of the main competition. The championship commenced with a 42-kilometer trail ride open to all categories.
Set to conclude on Sunday, June 29, the two-day event promises to be a thrilling display of endurance, strategy, and cycling excellence.
Final races are expected to draw significant public interest as riders battle for national titles and recognition.
This year’s championship marks the third major event on the Uganda Cycling Association (UCA) 2025 calendar and has been officially sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).

As a UCI class event, it offers participants the opportunity to earn valuable UCI points and qualify for the upcoming 2025 UCI Road World Championship scheduled for September in Kigali, Rwanda.
With national pride and global ambitions on the line, all eyes are now on Mbarara City as Uganda’s finest cyclists pedal their way toward glory.
