Opito Moses applauds Lango NRM members for smooth elections

Oyam | The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party delegates across Uganda on Friday May 23 elected new district party leaders.

Some aspirants claimed voter bribery and electoral irregularities, so elections in the Amolatar and Lira districts were canceled. Both districts will hold their elections on May 27.

Moses Okello, the NRM party registrar for Lira district, confirmed on Saturday morning that delegates will reconvene next week.

Okello Engola Junior, who was running for Oyam district NRM chairperson, caused a stir and soon hand-wrote a petition to the district NRM registrar, refusing to accept the poll results.

Engola polled 192 votes, while Bosco Onyik Ogwal received 271. He accused Willie Omodo Omodo of causing his loss and demanded that the entire election be cancelled.

His demands were not met, and the elections proceeded as planned.

Billie Otto defeated incumbent Philip Ogile Jakayo and Bismarck Isaac Olang to become the Oyam district’s new publicity secretary.

Meanwhile, Morris Michael Odongo is the new publicity secretary for PWDs in Oyam district.

“I pledge to serve with dedication, transparency and accountability ensuring that your voices are heard and your needs are addressed,” Odongo said in his post-election victory.

Applause

Speaking to tndNews on Friday, Opito Moses, an aspirant for Oyam South MP in 2026, praised NRM delegates in Oyam and Lango for conducting “smooth elections.”

Opito, who is running under the NRM party, also thanked the security team for ensuring safe and peaceful elections throughout the sub-region.

“To the new NRM leaders of Oyam district and (South), I am ready to work with you to develop our constituency and Lango.

“My appeal goes to those who are not happy with the outcomes of the election: Let’s follow what the law says, let’s follow the right procedures to complain as stipulated in the NRM party constitution.

“Otherwise, I thank you all and pray that God will bless us all and allow us to continue. Now is the time for Lango to rise up,” Opito stated.

In his pre-election message to Oyam NRM party delegates, Opito urged NRM leaders and members to continue to mobilise, recruit and preach NRM wealth creation messages to the masses.

“Today, we have to be proud as cadres and party members to meet under one roof in our big numbers,” he said.

NRM district leaders in Oyam praised Opito for providing 42 cartons of mineral water, as well as Bonny Amoki, chairman of the NRM for the Oyam town council, who provided chairs.
