Lango’s sports gurus have launched the Dwog Pacu Cup football tournament.
The tournament’s goal is to combat climate change, source talent, and ensure the safety of students at school.
During the launch, which took place at the St Lira Hotel on Friday, May 9, FUFA representatives from the region, NFA executives, DFAs from the districts within the Lango sub-region, and other football stakeholders “spoke one language.”
This year’s tournament, supported by KK Cham Sports Center, City Sounds, and Sasu Furniture, is themed “Plant more trees.”
It will bring together all 21 constituencies in the Lango sub-region, beginning at the sub-county level, with each constituency raising a team to compete in the main tournament, the “Dwog Pacu Cup.”
During the tournament, administrative structures will be implemented at the sub-county level. These structures will monitor seedling distribution and planting.
Dan Obote, FUFA Ex-com member in charge of Lango, thanked the organizers for their ideas and pledged his full support.
Obote stated that FUFA is open to such ideas because it aids in the identification and promotion of sports talent, which they are pursuing.
Kenneth Kaunda Okwir, chairperson of the tournament organizers, stated that the tournament’s additional goals are to green Lango by planting over 10 million trees, to campaign against child abuse and child marriage, and to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, which has become a problem in Lango.
The highly anticipated tournament will begin this July.
