Kiira Regional Police have launched a manhunt for the assailants responsible for the fatal shooting of businessman Peter Muzira, 34.
Muzira was a resident of Luzinga Central village, Wankole Sub-county, Kamuli district.
SP James Mubi, PRO Kiira region, confirmed that Muzira was shot dead on Thursday, March 13, 2025, while riding a boda boda in a valley between Luzinga and Buwenge Town Council.
According to preliminary police reports, the businessman boarded the motorcycle while en route to Buwenge town council in Jinja district. Prior to his journey, the same boda boda picked up a female passenger at Bubaale Trading Centre in Wankole sub-county.
The boda boda rider and the female passenger are currently being held at Buwenge Central Police Station (CPS) while investigations continue. Their identities have been concealed to ensure a thorough investigation and successful prosecution of the perpetrators.
Buwenge Police, led by District Police Commander (DPC) SP Oyee Morris, responded quickly to the crime scene, where officers discovered four cartridges and a hood believed to be used by the attackers.
It was also discovered that the assailants took Muzira’s phones, trousers, and boxer, raising questions about the motive for the killing.
Speaking about the ongoing investigation, Kiira Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer SSP Dr. Monday Johnson Agaba assured the deceased’s family and the public that police are working hard to ensure justice is served.
Monday urged anyone with credible information about the incident to come forward and assist authorities. The CID chief also warned the perpetrators to surrender before being apprehended.
“Evading justice is only temporary. The strong capacity of Kiira Regional Police in handling dangerous and high-profile cases will ensure these criminals are brought to book,” he cautioned.
