Lira City WMP Dr. Aceng leads a delegation for a high-profile aviation negotiation

Entebbe|A delegation from the Lira Chamber of Commerce and Industry visited Entebbe for a working tour and strategic aviation business.

The tour included negotiations with the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, with a particular emphasis on starting the aviation (airport) industry in the sub-region.

Led by Lira City woman MP who also serves as Minister for Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the delegation explored business opportunities and investment prospects in key areas.

Notable business personalities on the tour included Ongom Chris, Ocol Johnson, Ayena Fred, Olet Gracious, Okabo Talib (Nyeko Bali Kare), Fred Dio, Tina Awor, Atyiana Elizabeth, Ojore, Adeka Tonny, Okello Bosco, and Olam Pius.

Others included Okabo Francis, Eryau Francis, Ogwal Patrick, and Abdul Olala, all from Lira City and the larger Lango sub-region.

They held a “dialogue” with the Civil Aviation Authority to begin work on the proposed project Airfield in Anai, Lira City.

As far as tndNews is aware, the delegation transferred ownership of the land on which the airfield was proposed and talked about starting with an aerodrome to allow small planes to land while they complete the feasibility study, project proposal, and resource mobilization.

They both advocated for an international airport.

Other key issues discussed included protecting airport land from encroachment, avoiding high-rise buildings 15 kilometers from the runway, and roads leading to the airport.

The purpose of the visit is to increase investment opportunities in Lira City and throughout Lango, establishing the subregion as a leading business and investment hub in Northern Uganda.

This initiative comes as Lira City prepares to become the economic hub of Northern Uganda, attracting a variety of business and investment ventures.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero cautioned the delegation and the larger business community against engaging in bad politics and instead focusing on development issues rather than wasting time on non-issues.

She thanked them for their solidarity and contribution to the development of Lira City and Lango. “Please continue because as long as I live, I will collaborate with you to develop Lira City, Lango, and Uganda.”

“No single leader can develop a place alone; let us join hands for our own development,” Dr. Aceng told the business community on the sidelines of the meeting.

Dr. Aceng has been at the forefront of Lango’s infrastructure development, particularly in Lira City.

At Lira Regional Referral Hospital, for example, important infrastructure projects have emerged.
