New Year: How North Kyoga Region entered 2025

Lira | North Kyoga Region (Lango sub-region) crossed over into 2025 well, police have said.

However, it added that they registered “some few incidences”.

On January 1 at 12:30 a.m., a police officer shot one person and attempted to kill two others in Apac district.

The regional police also reported three road crashes, one fatal in Apac district and one serious in Alebtong district.

Another crash occurred on Juba Road in Lira City West Division, according to regional police PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema.

“We had a case of murder by stabbing in Lira City West Division where the victim died later from Lira Regional Referral Hospital where he was rushed,” he added in a statement on Wednesday.

In general, SP Okema revealed that the people of North Kyoga celebrated and ushered in the new year 2025 with great excitement during the fireworks display.

By the afternoon of January 1, tndNews had yet to receive comprehensive police reports on how the New Year was ushered in.

In the morning, SP Okema said he was awaiting reports from ground commanders.

These commanders, he said, were deployed to man different places which were permitted to display fireworks and they were to monitor if the people followed the five minutes guidelines.
