President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki as the new Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority.
Ms Buzeki previously served as the Ministry of Public Service’s Commissioner of Human Resource Management.
Benon Kigenyi will serve as her deputy.
Faruk Kirunda, Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, announced the duo’s appointments Thursday morning.
Hajjat Buzeki holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Management, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from the Islamic University of Uganda (IUIU).
She has also taken numerous skill-building courses and earned certificates in conflict resolution, leadership and change management, monitoring and evaluation, trainer training, and facilitation, among other things.
In November of this year, the Public Service Commission (PSC) released a shortlist that included only one female candidate.
PSC, which carried out the search for the new ED on the President’s instructions, ignored experienced administrators such as Robert Kabushenga and Richard Byarugaba. They both managed Vision Group and the NSSF.
Following the Kiteezi landfill collapse, the President sacked Ms Dorothy Kisaka and her deputy David Luyimbazi, leaving the KCCA’s top positions vacant.
Dozens were killed in August 2024 when the garbage collapsed.
According to police, at least 21 people died at this massive rubbish dump site near Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
The Kiteezi landfill, which covers 36 acres (14 hectares), serves the entire city of Kampala, which has a population of approximately four million.
