The Police in Oyam district have arrested ten suspects in connection with the alleged break-in and theft at the computer laboratory at Ngai Secondary School.

According to the head teacher, Janani Okot, the school’s computer lab was broken into by unknown individuals at around 2:00 am on August 23, 2026, resulting in the theft of equipment valued at approximately shs40 million.

Okot reported the matter to the Oyam Central Police Station.

According to the head teacher, the incident occurred at around 2:00 am at Barryeko village, Akucha parish, Ngai sub-county, Oyam district.

On Monday, August 24, 2026, the 57-year-old head teacher discovered that during the night of August 23, the computer lab had been broken into and 16 HP Central Processing Units, valued at roughly shs40 million, had been stolen.

Speaking on the matter, Police PRO for North Kyoga Region, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema explained that upon discovering the break-in at approximately 7:40 am, Okot Janani immediately alerted the ICT teacher, Olobo Tonny, and together they reported the incident to Oyam Police Station.

Police swiftly responded to the scene and have since arrested ten suspects to aid in the investigation.

The suspects include: Olobo Tonny, aged 42 (ICT Teacher), Ogwal Patrick, aged 40 (watchman); Ogwang Isaac, aged 40 (watchman), Eban Tom, aged 55 (watchman); Nam Darius, aged 17 (student).

Others are Ogwal Yubu, aged 17 (student), Ogwal Darius, aged 17 (student), Oyuku Emmanuel, aged 16 (student), Munu Milton Chris, aged 17 (student) and Ongom Moses, aged 17 (student).

SP Okema added that a case file for office breaking and theft has been opened to investigate the matter.

Statements have been recorded from the complainant, and the crime scene was visited and processed by the District Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO), accompanied by both uniformed police and detectives from Oyam CPS.

A canine unit was deployed at the scene, and the ten suspects were arrested for questioning, including the watchmen and other school staff. The DVR was recovered from the scene and has been documented as an exhibit.

Police have stated that plans are underway to review footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the ICT lab at Ngai SS.

In addition, all suspects will be fingerprinted, samples will be collected for DNA analysis, and interviews will be conducted with the suspects, the camera service providers, and the installers of the school’s computer systems.

The investigation will also seek to determine the level of student involvement in the alleged crime.
