Lira |Five people have been arrested in connection to the murder of a 44-year-old man in Lira City.
A police canine unit assisted in their arrest.
The suspects are Ober Kampala residents Okeny Innocent, 41; Akite Jacinta, 42; Otuke William Joshua, 25; Okello Ivan, 21; and Ogwok Emmanuel, 18.
North Kyoga Region Police PRO SP Jimmy Patrick Okema stated that they are investigating the suspected murder of Ogwal Bonny, 44.
He was self-employed and lived in Ober Kampala. The crime against him occurred on December 4, 2024, at an unspecified time in Ober Kampala.
“The incident was reported by OJwang Fred, a 46-year-old resident of Obutowelo ‘B’ Cell, Obutowelo Ward, Lira City West Division,” SP Okema explained.
It is claimed that on the evening of December 4, 2024, Ogwal arrived home inebriated and fell asleep.
“The following morning, on December 5, 2024, neighbors discovered his door open and found him lying in a pool of blood with a large blood-stained stone nearby.”
Local council members were notified, and a murder report was filed with the Lira City West Division Police.
SP Okema revealed that a team of officers from the Lira City West Division Police Station, led by the Division CID Officer, arrived at the scene quickly, along with a canine unit from North Kyoga Regional Headquarters, SOCO, homicide investigators, and uniformed personnel.
The canine tracked down the suspects, resulting in their arrest.
Ogwal’s body was retrieved and transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital, where his death was confirmed. As of Friday, the body was in the mortuary, awaiting a postmortem.
“We urge anyone with information about this murder to discreetly share it with the police to help with the investigation,” the PRO said.
