UPDF announces major victories in fight against ADF terrorism

Fort Portal |Major General Richard Otto, Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Mountain Division and Operation Shujaa, has described “the significant accomplishments of the operation against the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF)”.

The operation against the ADF in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) began in November 2021.

Maj Gen Otto detailed the operation’s successes during a press briefing earlier this week at Mountain Division Headquarters in Fort Portal City.

“Several top commanders have been captured, while others have been rendered inactive by joint operations,” he stated.

Since 2021, the UPDF and FARDC have worked together to dismantle the ADF in the DRC.

Otto also emphasized the destruction of enemy camps, the recovery of large amounts of firearms and ammunition, and the restoration of peace in liberated areas.

He also reported the successful rescue of hundreds of ADF abductees, many of whom have been rehabilitated, trained, and reunited with their families

“Schools have resumed, markets are open, and people can move freely,” he said, despite the region’s difficult terrain.

Major Dr Daniel Okello, the Division Medical Officer and Head of Medical Services for Operation Shujaa, provided an update on the rescued abductees’ condition.

“We currently have 20 abductees who were rescued two months ago and are now in good health and walking, as compared to their previous condition,” Dr Okello explained.

Army commanders have urged the public to refrain from engaging in terrorism-related activities and to continue supporting the ongoing fight against terrorism.
