Deputy CDF impressed by Ethiopian Air Force

Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Deputy Chief of Defence Forces and Inspector General of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), praised the Ethiopian Air Force Academy.

Okiding also mentioned that if he had been younger, he might have considered becoming a pilot.

Lt Gen Okiding, an artillery expert, is passionate about his field, but he is optimistic about potential air force cooperation between the UPDF and Ethiopian military.

During his visit to Ethiopia’s Air Force Headquarters in Bishoftu, about 60 kilometers from the capital, Lt Gen Okiding toured the Air Force Academy as well as other air force installations such as aviation maintenance, innovation departments, and the flying school.

He was representing the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and was received by Lt Gen Yilma Merdasa, Commander of the Federal Airforce.

Gen Okiding’s visit followed Gen Kainerugaba’s meeting with Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, where they discussed potential areas of cooperation in various military aspects.

This meeting was subsequently followed by a dinner hosted by the Ethiopian counterpart at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

Lt Gen Okiding was joined at the Air Force headquarters by members of Gen Kainerugaba’s delegation.

The delegation included Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, Commander of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Brig Gen Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi, Sector One Contingent Commander under ATMIS, and Col Fred Zakye, Uganda’s military attaché in Ethiopia.
