Arua High Court to prioritise juvenile justice 

Arua |The Judiciary has made a commitment to expedite Justice for all in the West Nile sub-region.

This commitment was made in a statement released on Thursday. “On Tuesday, Arua High Court held its Regional Coordination Committee meeting at Hotel Grande Le Tsuba.

“The meeting was part of the EU Supreme projects in West Nile. The meeting was intended to improve service delivery among stakeholders.”

Resident Judge, Lady Justice Harriet Grace Magala chaired the meeting with participants from different justice institutions.

“Key issues deliberated upon were security, refugee access to justice and juvenile justice.

It was agreed that the Circuit would expedite juvenile justice, strengthen security, hold refugee sessions and sensitise refugees on legal processes.

In West Nile sub-region, high cases of child abuse, and substance abuse are prevalent.

In 2023, construction of juvenile reception centre started in the sub-region which expection shelter and protection for children who flee homes due to GBV and other crimes.

The government was expected to spend shs190 million on the centre.
