Akena applauds father, Obote; sows presidential seeds in Kyankwanzi

Kiboga | On December 2, Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party president Jimmy Akena attended the memorial service for Ogen Andrea, the former UPC Coordinator of Kiboga, in Kyankwanzi district. His death occurred on December 2, 1987.

Akena was accompanied by the party’s Secretary General, Ebil Fred. During his remarks, he stated that he was on a mission to plant good seeds that will yield good results.

Speaking in parables, Akena, who also serves as Lira City East MP, stated that Jesus Christ taught us to cut down trees that do not bear good fruit.

The congregation applauded him throughout his address. He requested that the people of Kiboga and Kyankwanzi work together to plant trees that will bear fruit for future generations.

Akena also asked them to assist him in cutting down bad fruit trees in 2026 by electing only UPC party flag bearers from LC1 to the President of Uganda.

Kiboga assured Akena that they would support his bid for President of Uganda in the 2026 general election.

The UPC leader thanked the Ogen family for inviting him to honor the late Congressman, who left behind 367 descendants. He asked the family to let him “pick some trees that the late planted so he can plant them at his home.”

Here is an excerpt (quotations) from his address.

“……when i returned from exile, my father’s elder brother took me to where my late father (Obote) had planted mango trees, and he said: “These are the trees your father planted; he planted when he was still a young man.”

Akena stated that his children can now eat those fruits, as can his grandchildren and subsequent generations.

“So, if I sit here, I ask these boys which of the mango trees have the sweetest fruits, because all mangoes are not the same. When we used to climb the mango trees, you know this one is sweeter, this one is not; you know which is which. And you find some mango trees is there and nobody is interested…those who grew around the area knows which one is the best.

“Me, as a farmer, when I know there is a sweet mango tree and I see a young one coming I will remove it and put it in a good area so that it can grow, so that it grows and can also be a fruit for others. So, let me assure people, I have not come to cause a problem for anybody, I have come looking at the future for the people of Uganda.

“Our duty is to plant the good fruits, and when I go around the country, I see the fruits which our forefathers planted. When I was coming here, I passed Kiboga Hospital which is one of the seeds planted by UPC. Even if the people who planted it have gone, that Hospital is still treating people of this area. So, our duty is to get those good fruits and to be planting in different parts of Uganda.

“If you go to Kiryandongo, you find the same Hospital as Kiboga. Everywhere you go in Uganda you will find the fruits which were planted by our forefathers. My duty as my father’s son is to go around the country and plant such seeds for the next generation and generation after.”

“It is not my duty to remove, mine is to plant. I can tell you: If a tree is not producing good fruits, you know what Jesus (Christ) did. What we are doing is planting fruits and that is not against anybody. When you go to Hospitals did, they ask what party are you? Did they ask your religion? They treat you.”

Akena stated that he and the UPC party are working to put things in place that will strengthen the Ugandan people. “So, allow me, even if I take some of these fruits, some of the young people [Peter]; allow me to groom him so that I can bring him back and produce more fruits in this area. That is how strong we are as UPC, that is why you don’t hear Akena is attacking this politician, Akena is abusing this politician, no; I am trying to build Uganda. That is the example that my father gave me; I can only do what my father has done.”

“And everywhere you go in Uganda you will find that fruit, which is produced today, tomorrow for the next generation. You go to Ntungamo you find a hospital; you go to Kitagata in Bushenyi you find Hospital like this one; you go to Kigezi you will find one in Kanungu. You go to Abim in Karamoja you find a hospital, in Busorwe in Butaleja you find a hospital built by UPC; in Bugiri, Busoga the same Hospital. Everywhere in Uganda you will find those fruits, that is the fruits somebody wants to destroy, that is the one which is supposed to save lives of the people.”

Within Buganda, Akena said there is a fruit (hospital) in Kayunga, Lugazi there is one; Nakaseke there is another one as Gomba.

“I can talk about education also; I can also talk about cooperatives helping people. I have come here to assure all of you: I cry for the peace of Uganda such that the next generation can grow up in a wonderful country which is theirs and we must do everything to support them to grow up into responsible citizens of Uganda.

“I want to repeat again, I thank you (the family) for giving me the opportunity to come here and share these important things. I want to thank Andrea for his contributions and those who have brought us here today. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us, we will be available. But let us work together and build a Uganda worth for all the citizens……”
