“No issues between us,” Amolatar man says as his wife, 50, dies by hanging

Amolatar | On Wednesday, a 50-year-old woman was discovered dead by hanging in Abeja sub-county, Amolatar district.

Hardline Okwir has shocked the people of Lubiri village, including family members.

On December 11, 2024, residents were shocked to discover Mrs Okwir’s lifeless body hanging from a tree branch.

Ogwal Dick, Lubiri’s local council one (LC1) chairperson, stated that he received the distressing news in the morning.

Until her death, she was married to Okwir Dicken, a retired teacher.

LC1 chairperson Ogwal is now emphasizing the importance of mental health awareness, urging the community to remain vigilant and supportive of one another.

“We must take these matters seriously and look out for our neighbors,” he stated.

“Sometimes, people suffer in silence, and it’s crucial that we create an environment where individuals feel safe to express their struggles,” the local leader added.

When tndNews contacted widower Dicken Okwir, he stated that he had visited the trading center the previous day. “Upon returning home, I found that my wife was missing.”

He presumed she had gone to spend the night with their son.

However, when morning arrived, a search was launched, which tragically resulted in the discovery of his wife hanging dead.

When asked about any possible disagreements between him and his wife, Dicken stated unequivocally that “there were no issues between us.”

He mentioned that his wife was ill and had recently been discharged from Amai Hospital, where she had shown signs of improvement.

Friends and family said Hardline had been dealing with health issues, but there was hope for her recovery.

Her recent hospital discharge had given many in the community hope for her future. However, it appears that the internal battles she had were too overwhelming.

The death of Hardline Okwir serves as a painful reminder of the complexities of mental health and the importance of compassion and understanding in our communities.

As the days pass, the hope is that her story will painfully inspire others to seek help and support, ensuring that no one feels isolated in their struggles.

The family confirmed that they had reported the incident to the police and are now awaiting their response.

Police had not arrived at the scene when this story was published.
