Mukono I Kwania district local government in Lango sub-region is one of the beneficiaries of the Ministry of Local Government’s National Oilseeds Project (NOSP).
Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) is the project’s lead implementing partner, according to the official government document.
Across the country, thousands of kilometers of community access roads (CARs) will be constructed or repaired to help farmers get their produce to market.
At least 81 districts across the country zoned into six hubs are benefiting with farmers engaging in oilseed crops such as groundnuts, simsim, soyabean, among others.
The project is targeting 120,000 susbsitance smallholder households with women making up 60% and men and youth, 40%.
Under Batch A, Kwania has already signed a shs1 billion contract for roads. Lydia Aduni, the district’s senior procurement officer, spoke with tndNews on Thursday.
Aduni is one of hundreds of technocrats from districts such as Arua, Kole, Oyam, Amuru, Kalaki; Amuria, Gulu, and many others, who benefit from the NOSP.
They are attending a two-day quarterly review meeting ending Friday, December 6, at Rider Hotel in Seeta, Mukono.
Aduni, speaking exclusively to this digital publication, wants to make Kwania shine under the national oilseeds project after her district was publicly mentioned during a review meeting as one of those who signed the contract.
“We are very ready in any case to take up Batch B,” she said, adding, “I have not done my district a disservice. We deserved it and I am doing it for them; so that could be good news for my accounting officer and the chairperson LC5 to hear that their district was among the performers.”

The seven year project until 2027 is funded with a loan from International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and the Opec Fund for International Development (OFID).
By the project’s end, it is expected that rural transformation through sustainable development of the oilseeds sector will have been achieved.
Full coverage runs on Friday.
