Lira gets six students under District Quota System

Six students from Lira district who were shortlisted for the district Quota system following last years’ excellence in Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations are to undergo a verification exercise on Tuesday [tomorrow].

The Lira district Chairman Mr. Alex Oremo Alot told TND News that the exercise will take place in his office Tuesday morning.

He says each shortlisted student is expected to come along with his or her parent, the area Local Council Three Chairperson, birth certificate, school identity card and a result slip.

According to Oremo, there has been a fall in the number of student allocated to his district compared to last years’ eight.

Alot also appealed to government to increase the number of beneficriary for Lira district.

“Lira district has received a list of six students to benefit from QuotaSystem. Three are males and three females,” he said.

“I have noticed that this year we have only six students compared to eight last year and yet Lira performed very well. I will appeal to the Ministry of Education and Sports about the decline and cut off points which are also very high compared to other districts,” Oremo noted.

The shortlisted students include Atim Mercy Maureen and Akello Angella both from St. Katherine Girls’ Secondary School in Lira who have been admitted to study Bachelor of Journalism and Communication at Makerere University.

Apio Prossy Anita and Oruu Francis both Mentor Senior Secondary school have been admitted for Library and Information Science at Makerere and Kyambogo Universities respectively.

Others are Oteng Mwanga Paul who has been admitted to Gulu University and Ayeni Jasper who has been admitted at Makerere University.
