Otici village murder suspect arrested – says Amuru RDC 


Amuru |The Amuru District Security Committee has taken action in the tragic murder of a six-year-old child from Otici village.

The suspect, Okwera Bernard, was apprehended and is now in police custody.

On November 19, 2024, at approximately 3 p.m., the Amuru District Police received a report of a heinous murder involving a six-year-old Otici Primary School pupil.

According to Amuru RDC Osborn Geoffrey Oceng, the child hails from Owadi village in Guruguru sub-county.

He stated that he was brutally attacked by unknown assailants. “Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was playing with other children when an unknown individual abducted him, dragged him into a nearby bush, and fatally assaulted him with a sharp object.”

On November 23, according to the RDC, community intelligence led to the arrest of Okwera Bernard, 23, of Otici village.

He was apprehended in Elegu II village, Pabbo sub-county, while attempting to pray on Labala Hill.

“He was found in possession of a bed sheet with dry blood stains and a panga. On interrogation, he revealed that he is of the above particulars and address.

“However, the suspect declined to admit whether he was the one who committed the murder,” added RDC Osborn .

Okwera was arrested and detained at Pabbo Police Station for initial interrogation before being transferred to Amuru Central Police Station.

As of Sunday, he was still being interrogated, and further investigations are underway to ensure justice is served.

The RDC urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation about the investigation’s outcome.

“We are committed to ensuring that the perpetrator of this heinous crime is brought to justice. We ask the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, movement (behaviours) to the security authorities.”

The Amuru district security remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the district and its surroundings, the RDC stated, thanking the community for their cooperation and support during this investigation.

Amuru CPS has recorded a murder case under CRB 530.
